Excavator Mulchers

OMEF TE excavator mulchers clear brush, shrubs and trees for land clearing, roadside and right-of-way work. Three rotor types cover everything from grass and light brush to standing trees, on excavators from 1 to 30 tonnes.

About the Excavator Mulchers

Supplied new through Valtek

The flail K/M mulchers run hammers or knives for grass, shrubs and light brush. Semi-forestry models step up to free-swinging hammers for heavier regrowth, and the fixed-tooth DF forestry mulchers grind standing trees, with bi-directional rotors and hydraulic door models available.

Working widths run from 500 mm on mini excavators to 1800 mm on 30 tonne machines. Tell us your excavator model and what you are clearing and we will match the head to it.

Every new OMEF attachment is backed by a 1 year warranty.

Know Your Mulcher: Teeth, Rotor Direction and the Hydraulic Door

What the options actually do

The biggest choice on any mulcher is what is mounted on the rotor. Flail rotors carry free-swinging hammers or knives: they are the pick for grass, shrubs, hedgerows and general clearing, they leave a finer finish, and because the tools swing, they fold back when they strike a rock or a piece of hidden steel instead of breaking. Semi-forestry rotors run heavier free-swinging hammers built for thick regrowth and small trees, a step up in aggression that keeps that forgiving swing. Fixed-tooth forestry rotors bolt their teeth rigidly to the rotor, so all the power goes into the wood. They are the tool for standing trees, stumps and heavy timber, and the teeth are replaceable as they wear, but a fixed tooth has nowhere to hide from rock or scrap, so they belong in wood, not rubble.

Most rotors turn one way only. The bi-directional rotors on the DF2 models run in either direction, switched from the cab. The operator can cut on whichever pass suits the ground, throw the mulch where it is wanted, and work along a fence line or ditch bank without repositioning the machine for every pass. Reversing also spreads wear across both faces of the teeth instead of wearing one side down, so a set of teeth lasts longer.

The hydraulic door is the adjustable hood at the back of the mulching head on the DF models, opened and closed from the cab. Closed, it holds material in the cutting chamber longer so it comes out finer, and it helps contain flying debris around roads, buildings and people. Open, the head discharges freely and takes a heavier bite in thick material without plugging. Most operators run it somewhere in between and adjust it as the material changes through the day.
